Background Checks & Protecting God’s Children

Who needs a Background Check & Protecting God’s Children?

All parish clergy, staff, and volunteers are required to complete the following process before beginning their ministry work in the parish. Should you have any questions, please email us by clicking below.

Please follow directions below for how to complete your Background Check & PGC.

NEW VOLUNTEERS must complete the following steps:

  1. Create an account in Virtus.

  2. In your Virtus account, sign-up for a LIVE “Protecting God’s Children” Training Session (live sessions may be completed in-person or on Zoom)

  3. In your Virtus account, complete an integrated background check form.

PREVIOUSLY TRAINED VOLUNTEERS (even if trained at another location) must complete the following steps:

  1. Log in to your Virtus account.

  2. In your Virtus account, add “St. John Fisher" as a volunteer location.

  3. In your Virtus account, complete the self-paced online module of “Protecting God’s Children” if outstanding and needed (volunteers are required to complete this online program once every 3 years).

  4. In your Virtus account, complete an integrated background check form if outstanding and needed.
